Mr. Sandhu was also awarded Silver Medal and Certificate of appreciation for outstanding work during the Census-1991 by the President of India. Apart from this, many appreciation letters were also issue to me while performing duties. Mr. Sandhu also Member of the Think Tank Committee, duly constituted by the Department of Revenue, Punjab.
Beyond his administrative career, being an outstanding Hockey player Mr. Sandhu had represented as Captain of the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar in various Inter University Hockey Championships, Punjab State Junior & Senior Hockey Teams in various National Hockey Championships and also represented Indian Universities (Combined Universes) Hockey teams in various Senior & Junior National Hockey Championships. He also played from Chandigarh Hockey Team in many National Hockey Championships. In 1985, he was selected as a probable for the Indian Junior Hockey Team camp ahead of the Junior World Cup, serving as a goalkeeper.
Mr. Sandhu also participated in the International Youth Festival held at Lahore (Pakistan) in year 2014 as Manager of Punjab Hockey Team which won the Gold Medal. I was also selected one of the probables of Indian Junior Hockey Team, which participated in Jr. World Cup in year 1985. He also attended Seminar on Hockey in USA, Canada and Pakistan, Germany.
A graduate of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, Mr. Sandhu has dedicated 48 remarkable years (75% of his life!) to hockey. Even at 63, he continues to promote the sport with unwavering enthusiasm.
Mr. Sandhu’s contributions extend beyond the field through his long-standing association with India’s Grade-I renowned hockey tournament by Hockey India (HI) namely, Surjit Hockey Tournament Jalandhar. The tournament is organised every year, since 1984, to keep the name of Sardar Surjit Singh Randhawa, ex-Olympian alive, who lost his life in a fatal car accident near Jalandhar on January 7th, 1984, while fighting hard for up-liftment of the game of Hockey in our Country. Mr. Sandhu is associated with Surjit Hockey Society as founder Member and served in various capacities as:

- Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (since the last 3 years)
Mr. Sandhu is also Secretary of the PunjAab Cultural & Sports Society, Jalandhar who use to organise the cultural programmes and so far singers like Mr. Satinder Sartaj (Thrice), Nooran Sisters, Manmohan Waris Brothers, Ms. Naseebo Lal (Pakistan), Mr. Daljit Dosanjh, Lakhwinder Wadali, Mr. Ranjit Bawa, Mr. Parmish Verma etc had participated.
For Mr. Sandhu, hockey is not just a sport—it is his passion, purpose, and life’s greatest joy. He remains deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of players and advancing the sport he loves.
